I wished we lived in a different universe, Minimus. One where I'd made different choices and was a different person. We don't, though and I have to pay the price for my actions.

I wish we had more time. You're intelligent, dutiful, thorough, good-natured, and ultimately kind. You want to make the universe a better place than you left it. I want to be able to get to know you more than I do now. I want to see you learn and grow and I already have been utterly, completely privileged to see you become more than what you were when I first came aboard the Lost Light.

It's a loss that I will mourn.

But I also know that the memory of our time together will keep me sane, for however long I remain locked in that prison.

I know that ultimately, this relationship may go nowhere, but after so many years living as someone else, I want to know what it is like to be selfish. If we could ignore everything else you had done during the war, no one would mind that I wish to spend my time with someone who understands me.

And, if I may be sentimental for a moment, your presence does make the stress of everyday life on this ship disappear.

I don't know exactly what I deserve after the war, but the least I can have is your company.

Even though our positions do not require us to meet often, we should make time to see each other outside of working hours. I already miss our talks while reviewing ship logs.
